Yet another trendy restaurant has joined the plethora of hipster joints that dot the French capital. Nestled in the very heart of the « Opera Garnier », the eponymous restaurant radiates a certain originality.
Much awaited and postponed on several occasions, the place finally opened its doors earlier this month.
The theme of the setting relies on a conjugation of white and red colors. The 700 sqaure meters place encompasses a large dining area, a bar-lounge and a mezzanine. If the different areas of the restaurant do manifest some architectural coherence and continuity, they also demonstrate a dearth of innovation. The furniture evokes more a hackneyed Staples catalogue than the inspired creations of a crafty designer.
Owner Pierre-François Blanc reportedly invested a sum of 6 millions euros in the project. In the kitchens, it is Chef François Aribert that elaborated the menu.
The food was a telling of his manifestly scant inspiration. The dishes were stale and colorless. The ridiculously meager portions bordered on the opprobrious. The prices, it goes without saying, were exorbitant.
Service did little to bring some redemption to the place: it simply was nonexistent and lacked professionalism.
The owner might very well succeed in making his new place a financial success. Located in a touristic center of the capital, he can always count on a constant flux of foreign patrons. He should be careful, however, to bet on the patronage of the Jet Set and of all the amateurs of the type of fine dining that makes the pride of the city of lights.
