The first auction to take place 30,000 feet above the Atlantic Ocean - "Wings"

The auction will take place on June 22, 2011, on the OpenSkies Paris-New York flight departing at 1:40 pm.
The event is being organized by Dexter Gallery, a nomadic gallery specializing in contemporary art. OpenSkies, the all business airline and subsidiary of British Airways, is their partner in this undertaking.

The French auctioneer Pierre Cornette de Saint Cyr will conduct the auction for this charity event. All the proceeds will be donated to Institut Curie to support innovative cancer research.
Ten works of art by 10 contemporary artists - Carine Brancowitz, Reynald Drouhin, Alex et John Gailla, Stefane Perraud, Christophe Luxereau, Tanguy Roland, Alain Declercq, Bruno Peinado, Virginie Barré et Kriki - will be auctioned off.
“In a world with instantaneous global communication, we realized we can showcase works of art in all the corners of world. With a smartphone and a laptop, we can now work anywhere,” said Marc Réveillaud, one of the partners in the event. From this acknowledgement, the nomadic gallery was born: “For us, an airplane is one of the most beautiful symbols of mobility,” added Pierre Cornette de Saint Cyr, “To be able to do this auction between Paris and New York, two powerful cultural points, is a wonderful opportunity.”
“This partnership seemed very natural to us given the innovative and unique nature of the event. It also related well to our customer base. Above everything, this initiative was in line with our values and philosophy,” said David Erich, Commercial & Marketing Director of OpenSkies.
“It is difficult to pick one cause over another. But for this first-ever event, we chose Institut Curie simply because the mother of one of our close friends just beat cancer.” explained Réveillaud.
