World-class chefs pair up with musicians, architects and actors in Paris gastro event

Paris Des Chefs 2012, Food+Design

For the 4th edition of Paris des Chefs, overseen by Alain Ducasse, chefs from Brazil, Peru, the US, and France will gather at the restored Maison de la Mutualité where they will work together in 'duets' with different artists to create an allied dish that speaks to this year’s theme, 'Skin and Surfaces.’

Paris des Chefs will pair some of the world’s most illustrious chefs with musicians, designers, photographers, actors and painters in demonstrations that bridge seemingly different art forms through the dialogue of food.

Brazilian chef Alex Atala, for example, whose restaurant D.O.M. was named one of the world’s 50 best restaurants by Restaurant magazine last year, will work alongside fellow Brazilian designers Fernando and Humberto Campana.

France’s only three-Michelin-starred female chef Anne-Sophie Pic will be paired with French actress Carole Bouquet, while world-class jazz musician and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis will perform a culinary duet with San Francisco chef David Kinch.

Other big-name chefs expected to attend include Nathan Myhrvold and Maxime Bilet, authors of the encyclopedic culinary tome Modernist Cuisine, and Spain’s Albert Adrià, brother of Ferran Adrià who helmed the now shuttered el Bulli’s dessert menu and now heads Barcelona tapas bar Tickets.

The idea behind it is that the most successful restaurants are a harmonious design of space, interior design, art, and music, which have an impact on the dining experience; and each ingredient has its role.

Paris des Chefs starts January 22 and wraps up January 24.
