Ready to shed the holiday excess? Bike tech company Velocomp is releasing a cycling computer dubbed the iBike Powerhouse that integrates with any standard bicycle along with the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Designed in collaboration with American cycling coach Hunter Allen, the iBike Powerhouse features an array of fitness plans for any level, from total newbies to hard-core training cyclists.
The device features 45- to 90-minute training regimens that last four to six weeks and include iSlim, Express Fitness, Brazilian Butt, Kid Fit, Weekend Warrior, Zero to 50 miles in Three Weeks, and Healthy Heart. In addition to featuring ANT+ cycling sensors for speed, distance, and cadence, the Powerhouse guides you to pedal at specific levels of effort, customized to your goals and fitness level. You can also purchase additional training routines for $9.99 each via the iBike app.
Priced at $269, the Powerhouse includes a water- and shock-resistant case, a universal mounting system, all the necessary electronics and the iOS app, which allows you to listen to your own music while you ride.
The new device is set to be unveiled at this month's CES in Las Vegas, but stay tuned to the company website for a launch date.
A less-expensive option released last year is the Garmin Edge 200 (priced at $150), a GPS-enabled cycling computer that maps your rides and offers basic stats such as speed, distance, and calories burned. For more features, upgrade to the Garmin Edge 500 and 800, which offer navigation functions and the ability to sync with other devices, such as power meters, heart rate monitors, and cadence sensors.- Relaxnews
