Housed in a magnificent turn of the century neo-gothic building that used to function as Amsterdam’s former Sweelinck music school, the Conservatorium Hotel opened a few weeks ago.
The 129-room high-end luxury hotel is located in the heart of Museumplein where some of the world’s most famous galleries and museums sit side by side. Paying homage to the building’s original lofty ceilings, almost half of the rooms have been configured into duplex layout with oversized functional windows and exposed structural beams.
Working with the austere beauty of Daniel Knuttel’s original architecture, Piero Lissoni has created a succession of luminous spaces based around a soaring glass atrium, into which he has interposed striking modern architectural elements, juxtaposing contemporary design with the historic architecture of a building rich with heritage.
The Conservatorium Hotel is offering a sophisticated standard of service introducing Hosts who are trained as much in butler services as personal story telling. A Host – a position that combines concierge and guest relations – is assigned to each guest to take care of bookings and arrangements, but also to give guests a personal insight into their host city, offering in-the-know advice and even introducing guests to locals.
The Conservatorium Hotel offers several exclusive restaurants and bar areas, an Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Center as well as events and banqueting spaces.
Conservatorium Hotel is part of a new international luxury hotel collection, The Set, comprising Conservatorium Hotel, Museumplein Amsterdam, Cafe Royal, Regent Street London (opening June 2012) and Hotel Lutetia, Rive Gauche Paris (coming soon).
